John
Vukos is an accomplished man. Thirty years ago while
he was making banjo's and mandolins John took on
another interest, engraving. He honed his talents
through the years and found he enjoyed engraving traditional
designs on period guns as well as bulino and modern
designs on knives and modern firearms. During this
time he discovered he could move his skills to
a new medium, the art of scrimshaw. As your eyes behold
the beauty transferred from Johns hands to steel or
ivory you will see why I titled this section Artist
Engraver.
About
the man... John
recently retired from Kimberly Clark where he held a
position as Senior Scientist which has enabled him to
devote his attention to engraving full time. Somehow
John managed some free time to indulge a few hobbies! A
passion for flying led him to earning his pilots license
but he didn't stop there, he has flown two experimental
planes which by the way he built himself. John also
has an ear for music as he likes to play the banjo,
guitar, English concertina and mandolin. For exercise
he has achieved a 3rd degree black belt in the
art of Karate and with an eye for good wood he has
enjoyed building Queen-Anne style furniture. Oh did
I mention, he holds 16 U.S. Patents too.
