Welcome
to Hembrook Custom Knives I am a part time knife smith
living in a small rural Wisconsin town. In 1969 I
started to toy with knife making. About the middle 70's my interests were
renewed upon reading an ad for a then unknown, Bob Loveless.
I couldn't afford his prices but being a tool maker
by trade I knew I could make a quality knife as well,
hence the birth of Hembrook Custom Knives
I
use the stock removal process in my well equipped shop. I truly love working a raw steel blank
into a knife to be proud of. Over the years I have
learned how to make most of the popular blade designs
from miniatures to short Swords, collector grade folders
to my pride and joy, the working Hunter blade.
Because
of the passion I invest into each knife I refuse to
use anything but the finest materials in my craft. For
example with my stainless designs I use ATS 34 which
I have found to hold an resilient edge after extensive
use. My personal Hunter is made with such steel and
over the past 3 years and the help of many friends we
have field dressed 22 Whitetail without requiring the
blade to be re-sharpened.
These
are the steels I'm most fond of using in my craft. Stainless...as
mentioned I love the durability of ATS 34 but upon request
will use 440 C as well. High Carbon...O1 Tool Steel
and 52100 Damascus...5160 & L6 or 1095 &
15n20 have been a big favorite of mine sence the beginning.
I have found an excellent Damascus craftsman locally,
his name is Doug Ponzio and I consider him to be one
of the finest craftsman around with very Artful designs
within his Steel. I use the term Artful because the
manufacture of such steel is an Art and Doug puts pride
into his work as you will see in the following examples
of the knives I have made from his Steel. Be sure to visit
Dougs website as well. http://ponziodamascus.com
